For my wood 2 final, the assignment was to design and build a modular, table-top piece that explores a unique connection method, combining multiple machine processes and repeated components. Emphasizing experimentation and process, the project encourages creative exploration, allowing form to emerge naturally through hands-on construction methods.

The Processes

  • Turning

    Using the lathe, I explored and implemented different techniques such as split turning and spindle turning to create organic curvature.

  • Vacuum Bag Lamination

    I wanted to explore how to create natural multiplanar bends across bent lamination structures through using the vacuum bag.

Iterations and Steps

Using the techniques outlined above, I started to ideate on how to incorporate them into a multistep process. Through even more exploration I started to find methods and iterations that I liked.
