CHAIR STUDIO

Welcome to Advanced Chair Studio

The following are the chairs I have made so far this semester. From lightweight chairs to experimental processes this studio is aimed on experimenting with the relationship between from and function though chairs.

  • The goal for this chair was to make the most comfortable chair possible in one weekend. Working in pairs, we found 5 chairs on the Brown and RISD campus that we found the most comfortable. Based on measurements and designs, we crafted the most comfortable dining chair.

  • The goal was to make the most lightweight chair possible. My personal goal was to use discarded and abandoned materials to create this chair. Made from discarded honeycomb and corrugated cardboard I made a 5.6lb chair.

  • Based on a series of material and process based explorations, this chair is a depiction of experimentation. From bent laminations to tradition weaving techniques and joinery, I explored over 6 techniques to create the chair.

  • The following two assignments include an upholstered ottoman and upholstered final chair.
