AURALIS
a pair of headphones that look as good as you do.
The AURALIS Headphones
Wearing earrings is a core part of self identity. Many, months after they are born, have their ears pierced and from then on, wear earrings.
However, wearing earrings with headphones can be a pain. Literally. They press into your skin leaving angry red marks and cause irritation that lasts hours. A lot of people end up taking them out and then forgetting where they placed them or muscle through the pain.
I want to find a solution that is both aesthetic and functional.

Sketches and Construction
The form of the headphones is inspired by my favorite flower, the orchid. Taking inspiration from Pierced 02, I included earring holes on the headphones that not only act as relief and storage for the wearer but also act as a form of adornment.
01. Creating the orchid through a series of curves and detailed surface modeling
02. Identifying where and how many piercings to add to the headphones
03. The headphone assembly with all the internals in a standard set of overears
04. Mounting the orchid assembly to the headphones finding connection points
05. The full headphone assembly connection to the headband design
06. Modifying curvature of the headband in relation to size and orientation of headphones
The Elements
Below is each individual component that makes up the headphone assembly along with the half, and full assembly.

Using Vizcom to push the design and render ideas.
Vizcom
As part of the assignment, we delved into the use of AI rendering softwares, examining their capabilities and applications. I decided to use Vizcom, an AI-powered design tool that transforms sketches into high-quality 3D renderings in real time. I have explored Vizcom in the past to work in the ideation process, enabling quick visualization of concepts with realistic materials, lighting, and textures. Vizcom bridges the gap between traditional sketching and digital rendering, making it a valuable tool for rapid prototyping and creative exploration. This exploration not only expanded our technical skills but also sparked discussions about the implications of AI in creative processes.
01. Inputting a image of my headphone design into ChatGPT and asking for it to create a prompt for MidJourney based on the image I added. Then taking the prompt, refining the language, and putting it into Vizcom. Below is the image I inputted and the prompt that ChatGPT came up with.
02. The first renders that Vizcom created based on the above images. Both headphones only and with a person included.
03. Pushing Vizcom further by using reference images and exploring the style influence levels.
